Grooming for Rabbit

Rabbits are very clean animals and spend a lot of time grooming themselves. Unless you have a long haired breed like an Angora or Lionhead which must be groomed twice weekly, your rabbit will require little grooming.

Here’s a few daily care

  • Brush the coat to remove any matting or loose dirt.
  • Check length of nails and clip if necessary.
  • Check ears for mites, fleas and any redness which could be a sign of infection
  • Check eyes for any discharges by lifting their eyelids and assess if their lids are pink in color. Bring them to the vet once you notice any swelling, redness and discoloration in their eyes.
  • Check for nasal discharge.
    - Rabbits should not have discharge from their noses. Consult the vet if yours does as they may have respiratory infection.
  • Check the teeth regularly.
    - Rabbit needs healthy teeth to chew properly. With healthy teeth the upper incisors should just reach over the lower incisors.

Rarely, will the photographer step back, put down the camera and size up the assignment before proceeding. Instead, many of us will execute the photo from the angle we initially approached the subject, never thinking to study the subject and its environment first.

Hold It Steady

A problem with many photographs is that they’re blurry. Avoid ‘camera shake’ by holding the camera steady.

Use both hands, resting your elbows on your chest, or use a wall for support. Relax, don’t tense up. You’re a marksman/woman holding a gun and it must be steady to shoot.

Dog Panting: What Can Cause A Dog To Pant

Every breed of dog pants sometimes, either when they are exhausted after vigorous exercise, being stressed or in pain. When we care for dogs we have to be aware that a dog does not sweat over his entire body like we do. Because of his body being covered with either a thick or thin furry coat; instead he sweats mainly through the pads of his feet. There is an additional way an overheated dog cools his body down and that is by panting and breathing rapidly with his mouth wide open and his tongue pushed forward.

As a dog heats up he exposes more of his tongue and opens his mouth wider to increase the moist surface area for quicker cooling by using the process of evaporation. A Dog will also pant when he or she is nervous, much the same as we might sweat when we are worried or anxious. Continue reading

What To Expect As A Dog Ages

dog Anyone who gets a puppy that intends to love and cherish it throughout its life will have to accept the fact it will eventually get older. Sad but that’s the reality. This is likely to come sooner than most dog owners would like to think about. Dogs simply don’t live as long as humans. With this in mind, it’s reasonable to expect their aging process moves a whole lot more quickly, too.

The general rule of thumb is that dogs typically have a lifespan that falls in at less than 20 years. Smaller breeds tend to live a bit longer than larger breeds. The typical range for a small dog involves an upper reach of nearly 20 years. The very large breeds don’t tend to live longer than 10 years. There are exceptions to the rules, however. Some dogs have been known to live upward of three decades.
